ELITE Drops: Liberation and Piazza Maps

Further to an earlier post there have been numerous queries regarding the installation of the downloadable content.  Do not be alarmed dear friend, as those lovely people at Call of Duty ELITE have posted a video guide on YouTube – watch and learn noob.

Although I have been anticipating the new maps – after playing each one for a gazillion times they get boring – I have been too busy to play for a couple of days.  I expect the 360 to take a hammering over the next week though.

Mass Effect 3 Unlocks

Play the Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning [PEGI 18] demo  - available at the Marketplace now – and unlock exclusive Todd McFarlane-designed Reckoner Knight Armor and The Powerful Chakram Launcher for Mass Effect 3!  Further news is that the ME3 demo will become available on 14th February – that date rings a bell for some reason or another.  More information over at Bioware’s social network.

Modern Warfare 3 – DLC Arriving

Call of Duty Elite subscribers will receive the first downloadable content on the 24th January – this is the date for the Xbox 360 console, others at a later date – the first of nine monthly downlaods.

This first instalment offers two new multiplayer maps – Piazza and Liberation – the former being set on the coast of Italy and the latter in Manhattan.  Take a peek at the supplied Official Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® 3 Content Season 2012 Kick-Off – Behind the Scenes video.

Boosting

I will admit to be playing MW3 a tremendous amount lately – although that will be dramatically reduced when I commence T216 in February – and arguably the introduction of the Elite Service has improved the infamous Modern Warfare community a great deal.  Perhaps I have been fortunate that the lobbies I have been a part of have been pleasant and amiable overall.

There are however, a small minority who tarnish the game with their ridiculous antics.  In gaming terms, it is known as ‘boosting’ which can be defined as “The act of two or more players collaborating and killing each other repeatedly, usually to obtain kills/headshots/killstreaks without having to put in much effort, usually considered cheating.”  Having suspected of this unsavoury practice taking place, I checked my Theatre Mode – which records your gaming and offers the ability to change to different players – when lo and behold, my suspicions were proved to be correct.  View the supplied video with this post for the shameful acts.

Gamers involved were “iTz v HyPeRz” and “vR DazR” – poor, pathetic creatures.

Bouncing Bettys

I appreciate that this title could come from this month’s issue of Big ‘ n’ Bouncy – available online or the top shelf of your local newsagent – but no it’s not!  Instead, this refers to one of the weapons from MW3 which has the decency to pop up and say hello before it destroys you – all very civilised.

As part of Elite’s competitions, I captured both screen shots and a video of my use of the Bouncing Betty.

With His Dying Breath

Having been an avid reader of comics in my childhood – starting with The Beano, Dandy and Whizzer and Chips then progressing to Warlord, Battle,  Commando books and Action – the warfare-based comics all followed a similar pattern.  An  unsung character or sometimes the lead story’s hero would have to save the situation – such as charging a machine-gun nest.  After taking a full magazine – which to mere mortals would be fatal – with his dying breath he would scamper a further 100 yards, take out the machine-gun nest, wipe out a platoon of enemies and lob a grenade or two.

I was attempting to recreate this scenario whilst playing MW3 the other day and the following video – taken from my theatre mode –  had me laughing aloud during the playing of it.

Theatre Mode

As if I haven’t got enough to occupy myself, I decided to try out MW3′s Theatre Mode.  Provided that recording is enabled in the Options menu, your gameplay is captured and from there you can record a video and take screen shots.  Here is a gallery of the first four images – using the NextGEN plugin which I am experimenting with at this stage.

BF3 and MW3 Players

There have been many discussions – read ‘flame wars’ – regarding the differing mentalities of the Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 players. Regardless of whether their platform of choice be either console (Xbox 360/PS3) or Personal Computer, recent in-depth studies by a *respected institute can best be summarised in the images below. BF3 v MW3

There has been – and likely to continue for some time – some rivalry between the fans of these two games. In an innovative move, IGN has provided a video ‘head-to-head’ where you, the viewer, can vote on the three different aspects of each game.  These categories include each game’ s graphic capabilities, multiplayer and campaign modes.
